For Tobacco Users
OUTPATIENTS
NDP provides outpatient treatment at two locations: the Family Medicine Center and the NC Cancer Hospital.
Trained tobacco treatment specialists work with you to:
Family Medicine Center
Individual appointments with a tobacco treatment specialist are scheduled for Tuesday mornings and Wednesdays. An ongoing support group meets at noon on Wednesdays. To schedule an appointment, call (919) 966-0211.
In order to spend the majority of the first visit focusing on the treatment plan, we ask new patients to complete the Initial Assessment in advance and either e-mail it to ndp@med.unc.edu or bring it with them to the first appointment.

INPATIENTS at UNC HOSPITALS
NDP staff work with hospital clinicians to create systems that ensure that all inpatients using tobacco are given appropriate mediation to deal with withdrawal symptoms (e.g. nicotine replacement therapy) during their hospital stay, as well as opportunities to learn how to remain tobacco-free once they are discharged. Physicians can request an NDP consult through CPOE. Other providers or patients may also request a tobacco treatment specialist visit, using the contact information below.
Our Inpatient to Outpatient Program (I2O), funded by a Pfizer Medical Education Grant, offers inpatient consults with post discharge follow-up to support patients’ efforts to remain tobacco free.
For more information or to request a consult, contact Susan Trout.
